A glue stick is supplied with the UltiMaker S3, UltiMaker S5, UltiMaker 2+ Connect, and older printer models to improve build plate adhesion during printing and improve release after cooling down. On glass plates, the UHU glue stick works well for the materials that are supplied with the 3D printer (Tough PLA and PVA), but UltiMaker recommends the use of advanced glues for printing with engineering materials.
The UltiMaker S6, S7, S8 and UltiMaker Factor 4 have a flexible PEI-coated build plate. Adhesion and release of the UltiMaker materials work reliably on the flexible PEI plate without using glue; most materials can be printed directly on the (clean) surface.
For optimal build plate adhesion, it is important to use a well-leveled and clean build plate and a stable print environment. General tips and tricks on design guidelines, how to fix warping, and how to adjust printing parameters can further help reduce the warpage of your 3D printed model.
The following glues are recommended for each of the UltiMaker materials. Reliable build plate adhesion and release for engineering materials can be accomplished with Magigoo adhesives on the glass plate. In most cases no glue is required on the flexible PEI plate. For critical materials such as PC using glue can limit warpage. On the other hand, using Magigoo Supergrip greatly improves release for e.g. PET CF. Glues can ensure adhesion when multiple complex parts are printed on the build plate, however issues are mostly related to fingerprints on the PEI surface.

Caution: For Ultimaker PET CF, PETG and ABS, the use of glue is recommended to prevent excessive adhesion and avoid the risk of damage to the plate or printed part. For improved release Magigoo Supergrip is recommended for flexible PEI plates, whereas UHU glue is recommended on glass.
Note: Ensure to clean the flex plate with isopropanol alcohol!
For materials in the UltiMaker Material Alliance Program, adhesion guidelines are available in the UltiMaker Marketplace. In general, no glue is required on the flexible PEI plate, but can ensure improved adhesion and release for complex objects. Learn more about the use of adhesives on the flexible build plate here.
