The flexible build plate is the print surface for the UltiMaker Factor 4 and several S series 3D printers (S8, S7, and S6 Flex). This page contains important information about using this build plate, removing the print, and cleaning.
Operating instructions
When installing the flexible build plate, ensure that it aligns well with the pins at the front and back of the magnetic build plate. UltiMaker 3D printers compatible with the flexible build plate contain a sensor to detect if the build plate is present.
Tip: The flexible build plate may be installed with either side facing up. When installing the flexible build plate after printing on the other side, please ensure it is completely clean, and any filament remains have been removed.
Caution: Never touch or remove the flexible build plate when it is hot. Always wait until the display of the printer indicates that the build plate has cooled down to a safe temperature.

Removing the print
When the print is finished, let the build plate cool down. Remove the flexible build plate from the printer. Carefully bend the plate until the printed object detaches.
Tip: Take measures to prevent the printed object from falling and getting damaged when removing it from the flexible build plate.
If the object does not detach easily, use a plastic scraper or spatula. Insert it under the print, parallel to the build plate, and apply some force to remove the print.
Note: Only use plastic tools. Metal scrapers or spatulas may scratch or damage the surface of the flexible build plate.

Cleaning instructions
Clean the surface of the flexible build plate using a (microfiber) cloth and > 95% isopropyl alcohol (also known as isopropanol or IPA). Using paper towels may leave fibers on the surface. Wipe the flexible build plate with long strokes in one direction.
Note: Do not use other cleaning agents, such as acetone, petrol, or thinner for cleaning. This will permanently damage the surface of the flexible build plate. Do not use scouring pads, as these can leave scratches on the surface of the flexible build plate.
Caution: Isopropyl alcohol (CAS nr. 67-63-0) is a hazardous, highly flammable substance. Keep away from heat, sparks, static discharge, and other potential ignition sources. Ensure good ventilation and avoid inhaling the vapor. Read the SDS from your IPA supplier to learn more about the risks and safety precautions or find more information here.
