Issue summary
UltiMaker has received reports regarding a material loading inconsistency affecting the UltiMaker S6 and S8 in combination with the Material Station and running Firmware 11.2.0.
Users may experience a "hang" during the loading process where the feeder fails to engage as the filament approaches, typically resulting in the material stopping slightly above the feeder. In other instances, the filament may progress further but stops halfway through the Bowden tube toward the print head. In rare instances, the print process may start before the material reaches the print head, requiring a manual abort.
Current status
Our firmware engineering team has investigated the root cause and developed a fix for this known issue in firmware version 11.2.1.
Update the firmware via your printer's menu if the printer has a network connection, or download the file here to update via USB. You can find the release notes here.
Tip: Users previously affected by this problem were recommended to switch to the Stable firmware channel. Firmware 11.2.1 is only released on the Latest channel, so network-connected printers on the Stable channel are not actively notified on the printer. Update via USB, or change the channel again: Open the Maintenance menu, select Firmware subscription channel, and switch back to the Latest branch.
Troubleshooting
Now that a patch release is available, it is strongly recommended to update the firmware before starting new print jobs. However, if the problem occurs during an active print job (spool switch), it should be possible to retry the material loading process by following the guided "Material failed to load" procedure. After the print has finished, update the firmware to prevent the problem from occurring again.
Note: In some cases, loading problems can also be caused by the flow sensor in the feeder. If the loading problem still occurs on firmware 11.2.1, carefully remove the feeder from the back by undoing the two bolts. Check if the flow sensor cable is connected securely. Try reconnecting it, if needed.
