On various network-enabled UltiMaker printers, you can synchronize custom material profiles created in Cura with the 3D printer. This is possible for UltiMaker Factor and S Series printers, and with limited functionality for the UltiMaker 2+ Connect.
There are three options to perform the synchronization, described below.
Note: This article is specifically written for custom materials added to UltiMaker Cura. To synchronize Marketplace materials, please follow this guide.
Note: Custom materials added to Cura must follow strict rules to synchronize to your UltiMaker printer. Ensure your custom profiles are set up correctly; learn more here.
Synchronize via Digital Factory
If your printers are set up in your Digital Factory workspace, synchronizing the custom material profiles can be done very easily via the cloud. If your printers are not connected yet, learn how to set them up in your workspace in this article. Ensure you are signed in to your workspace in Cura, then take the following steps:
Note: This workflow is only compatible with Factor and S Series printers. You cannot select specific materials; all profiles will be synced.

1. Start synchronization process
Open the Cura Preferences menu and select the Materials tab. In the top-right corner, select Sync with Printers. This will load the sync wizard; click Start to begin.

2. Printer overview
In the next screen, you will see an overview of all printers that will receive the new material profiles. Only printers that are currently turned on and connected to the Digital Factory can receive the profiles.

3. Synchronization
Press Sync in the bottom-right corner to start the synchronization process. Wait for the process to complete.

4. Finish
When the syncing is finished, click the Done button to exit the synchronization screen.

Synchronize via USB
If your printers are not set up in the Digital Factory, or you simply prefer an offline workflow, you can also synchronize material profiles via USB. The steps are largely similar to those described above, but with a few extra manual steps.
Note: This workflow is only compatible with Factor and S Series printers. You cannot select specific materials; all profiles will be synced.

1. Start synchronization process
Open the Cura Preferences menu and select the Materials tab. In the top-right corner, select Sync with Printers. This will load the sync wizard; click Start to begin.

2. Sync with USB
If you are not signed in to Cura, you will see the screen above. If you are signed in, you will see the Printer overview screen. Press Sync materials with USB in the bottom-left corner.

3. Export material archive
The next screen provides instructions. Click the Export material archive button and save the file (materials.umm) to the root directory of a USB drive.

4. Import on your printer(s)
Insert the USB drive into your printer. In the Options menu (gear icon), select Maintenance → Import material profiles → Import from USB. Wait until the process is complete and the printer confirms that new profiles were added.

Synchronize materials of a print job, as 'ufp file'
Tip: This workflow is compatible with the UltiMaker 2+ Connect. It also allows adding only specific profiles on Factor and S Series printers.
UltiMaker Cura print jobs contain the material profile information. This information can be imported onto the printer menu using a sliced UFP file on a USB drive:
- Create a print job for your printer, using your custom material profile(s).
- Save the .UFP file to your USB stick.
- Insert the USB stick into the UltiMaker printer.
- Import the profiles. This depends on the printer model:
- Factor and S Series: Go to Maintenance → Import material profiles
- UltiMaker 2+ Connect: Go to Set material → Add new material and select Import from USB.
- Any new profiles found in UFP files are automatically imported.
