The Ultimaker 3, UltiMaker 2+ Connect, and S-line printers can connect to a network, either via Ethernet or Wi-Fi. Learn here how. Networked UltiMaker 3D printers can connect seamlessly with UltiMaker Cura and Digital Factory to enhance your 3D printing experience. With a connected printer, you benefit from the following additional features.
Synchronize configurations
The UltiMaker print core (or nozzle size) and material configuration loaded on your machine is automatically synchronized with UltiMaker Cura. This way, you do not have to manually select your configuration in Cura which speeds up the slicing process and reduces the chance of human error.
Tip: On an UltiMaker S5 or UltiMaker S7 with a connected Material Station, Cura will show all available configurations.
Print over network and via cloud
Send new print jobs to your UltiMaker 3D printer via the network in an instant. You do not need to use a USB drive or even be close to the printer. If the printer is available and has the right configuration installed, the print will start automatically. You and your team can even queue multiple print jobs.
Note: Queuing print jobs is not (yet) available on the UltiMaker 2+ Connect. Learn more here.
Monitoring
The monitor tab in UltiMaker Cura or the Digital Factory allows you to check the progress of your print jobs. If the printer is connected via local network to Cura, you can monitor the print as long as you are connected to the same network. If the printer is connected to the Digital Factory, monitor your prints from anywhere in the world.
You can see the progress and estimated completion time, and even check the camera to see if the model is printing as expected.
Note: The UltiMaker 2+ Connect does not have a camera. Not all features available in the UltiMaker Digital Factory are available via local network.
Synchronize Marketplace materials
UltiMaker 3D printers are open for use with third-party materials. All materials need specific settings and profiles for the best results. Many profiles can be downloaded from the UltiMaker Marketplace or you can create your own custom material profiles. For an optimal integration, synchronize these profiles with the printer.
Via local network, this happens automatically. If the printer is connected to the Digital Factory, changes regarding available profiles are detected in Cura, and syncing these with the printers only takes a few clicks.
