UltiMaker offers different types of print cores, with multiple nozzle sizes. The print cores are optimized specifically for certain materials, and not all print cores are compatible with all printers or material types.

Compatibility explanation

  • AA print cores: The AA print cores are compatible with all UltiMaker printers that use print cores (UltiMaker 3, S series, and Factor 4). These print cores are not intended for use with abrasive materials. Compatibility for the AA print cores with the UltiMaker S6 and S8 was added in Cura 5.11.
  • BB print cores: The BB print cores are compatible with all UltiMaker printers that use print cores (UltiMaker 3, S series, and Factor 4). These are specifically intended for support materials. Previously, Breakaway support was only compatible with the AA print cores on the UltiMaker 3, S3, S5, S7, and Factor 4; compatibility with the BB print cores was added in Cura 5.11.
  • CC print cores: The CC print cores are only compatible with UltiMaker printers with abrasion-resistant feeders (S series and Factor 4), also including the Material Station. These print cores are intended for use with abrasive or composite materials. These print cores cannot be used on the UltiMaker 3 because the UltiMaker 3 feeders are not compatible with composite materials (learn more here). Compatibility for the CC print cores with the UltiMaker S6 and S8 was added in Cura 5.11.
  • DD print cores: The DD cores are not recommended for use with the S series Material Station. The DD print cores currently only support Ultrafuse® Support Layer filament, which is used when printing metal. This is not recommended with the S series Material Station due to the curves in the internal filament path. On Factor 4, the filament path is different (smoother), so this does not affect the Ultrafuse material as much.
  • HT print cores: The HT print cores are only compatible with Factor 4. This print core type is optimized for high-temperature materials, such as UltiMaker PPS CF. This material requires a high printing and build volume temperature to print reliably; only Factor 4 features a heated build chamber.
  • AA+ print cores: These print cores have a quad-chamber design that allows for 2.5x more flow; they are optimized for high-speed printing using the UltiMaker Cheetah motion planner. This print core is only compatible with the UltiMaker S6 and S8.
  • CC+ print cores: These print cores are optimized for printing abrasive composite materials at high speeds using the UltiMaker Cheetah motion planner. This print core is only compatible with the UltiMaker S6 and S8.

Note: In UltiMaker Cura, it is still possible to select the CC+ 0.4 print core. A small number of these were originally shipped but were quickly replaced by the CC+ 0.6 print core due to reliability concerns. The CC+ 0.4 has since been discontinued. If you still have one in use, you can continue slicing for it in Cura, but please note that neither print quality nor long-term reliability can be guaranteed.
