What is Ultimaker 3D Printing Academy?

The Ultimaker 3D Printing Academy is a flexible learning platform that teaches the ins and outs of 3D printing. Courses created by Ultimaker's experts equip users with role-specific knowledge, enabling them to use 3D printing technology to maximum effect.

How do I use the Academy?

You log in with your Ultimaker account, either by using the app switcher in the top-right corner of the Ultimaker website or by navigating directly to academy.ultimaker.com

Depending on your subscription level you'll see different content. Click on a learning plan or course to get started.

What are learning plans, courses and modules?

Modules are usually 5 to 10 minutes long and focus on one topic. 

Courses: Courses consist of multiple modules and can either focus on one topic, e.g. Ultimaker Cura, or one learning goal, e.g. Getting Started with 3D Printing which consists of short modules about all aspects of 3D printing that a new user needs to know. 

Learning plans: Learning plans consist of multiple courses on different topics and are role-focused, e.g. for application engineers, printer operators or IT admins. 

Do I need to take the courses in a specific order?

No, you are free to navigate the courses in any order but we recommend you follow the learning plan structure.

How long does it to complete a course?

The length of the courses depends on the number of modules in a course. On average one module will take approximately 10 minutes.

Where do I find the courses that I took?

On the top left corner you'll find the symbol for the user menu. Click on it to expand it and the choose either My Activities or Progress Overview to see your courses. 

Who creates the content on the platform?

The content is created by the Ultimaker Academy team and our in-house experts. 

Will my progress be saved?

Yes, your progress is automatically saved as we are using a cloud-based platform.

How do I take an exam?

Exams can be found at the end of an learning plan or by searching for "exam" on the platform. Click on the exam course and read the instructions carefully. 

What should I do before an exam?

We recommend following the complete learning plan before starting the exam. Pay good attention the self-test questions within the modules and practice using Ultimaker Cura. If anything in the courses is unclear to you, check out the Ultimaker community and ask your questions there.

Are exams timed?

No, our exams are not timed. 

How do I get a certificate?

You will be able to download a pdf certificate after you passed the exam. To download the certificate later, go back to the exam. You can also go the My Activities page to download the certificate by clicking on the ribbon symbol.

How long are certificates valid?

Certificates are valid for one year. Afterwards you'll have to retake the exam. We'll announce when the new exams become available. 

The name on my certificate is wrong, what should I do?

Please contact academy@ultimaker.com to solve this issue. 

How can I tell that a certificate is legitimate?

Certificates come with a unique number that allows us to validate it. If there are questions around the legitimacy of a certificate, please reach out to academy@ultimaker.com

What are assignments?

Assignments are longer exercises, such as design exercises or case studies that you'll need to complete advanced courses. They will be reviewed by our team of experts and you'll receive feedback. 

I'm using Firefox, and after logging in, I'm redirected to account.ultimaker.com. What should I do?

Please go to academy.ultimaker.com or use the app switcher in the top right corner of the Ultimaker website to enter the academy.

In which languages is the Ultimaker 3D Printing Academy available?

It is only available in English.
