Set up the Ultimaker 2+ Connect for first use

After installing the hardware accessories, set up the printer for first use. Turn on the printer with the power switch at the back. After booting up, you will see the home screen. This displays your printer status, and allows you to quickly navigate to the Materials, Settings, or Maintenance menus.

Note: It is possible that the Ultimaker 2+ Connect shows a firmware upgrade screen when it boots up for the first time. If this is the case, update the firmware by following the instructions on this page.

The setup consists of a few different steps:

Level the build plate

To get the correct distance between the nozzle and the glass build plate, the build plate must be leveled. The Ultimaker 2+ Connect offers an assisted manual leveling procedure.

Maintenance Select the Maintenance menu on the touchscreen display and navigate to Level build plate. Follow the instructions on the screen, or visit this page for more information.

Load material

Before you can start printing on the Ultimaker 2+ Connect, you need to load material into the printer. For the first use, it is recommended to use the spool of PLA that came with the Ultimaker 2+ Connect. With the ergonomic feeder lever, loading material is easy.

Materials Select the Materials menu on the touchscreen display and navigate to Load material. Follow the instructions on the screen, or visit this page for more information.

Set up a network connection

The Ultimaker 2+ Connect can connect to a network, using either Wi-Fi or Ethernet. First set up your network connection before adding the printer to your personal Digital Factory, to benefit from remote printing features.

Settings Select the Settings menu on the touchscreen display and navigate to Network configuration. Follow the instructions on the screen, or visit this page for more information.

Tip: In the next firmware versions, a welcome setup will be implemented. This will guide users through these processes when starting up the Ultimaker 2+ Connect for the first time.
