Changing filament of the Ultimaker 2 Go

Product notification

This product has been discontinued and the end of service has passed. The information on this page remains available, but is no longer supported.

If your material has run out, or when you want to switch to a different material or a different color, change the material spool on your Ultimaker 2 Go. First, you first need to unload the filament that is already in the Ultimaker 2 Go. After this, you can insert the new filament.

The printer will guide you through the steps. In the menu, navigate to Material > Change to start the procedure. Follow the instructions in the tabs below to correctly change your filament spool.

Caution: Do not touch the nozzle during this process, as it will become hot.

Unload old spool Load new spool

The nozzle will start to heat up. Wait a moment until the nozzle reaches the correct temperature. This ensures that the filament inside the nozzle melts, so it can be retracted from the print head.

The feeder will now automatically unload the material by turning backward.

When the filament comes out of the feeder at the back, remove the spool from the spool holder.

Tip: If you want to continue printing with this spool later on, push the end of the filament through one of the holes in the spool. This will lock the material in place and prevent it from uncoiling or becoming entangled.

Place the spool away according to the material storage specifications. More information can be found on this page. For third-party materials, check with the filament manufacturer.

Note: Make sure there are no small pieces of filament left in the feeder after removing the old spool. You can use tweezers to remove any material pieces. For easier access, loosen the Bowden tube at the top of the feeder by removing the clamp clip, pressing down the tube coupling collet, and pulling out the Bowden tube.

At the end of the process, the printer asks you to select the material type that you have just loaded. Ensure to select the correct material from the list.

Tip: If you have installed a material that is not shown in the list, just choose any of the shown materials. To set the correct material profile, go to Material > Settings to customize the temperature settings, or create a new material profile and import it via the SD card.
