Note: The firmware file for the wrong version of the Ultimaker S5 will be recognized by the printer, but cannot be installed.

Steps to update:

  • Place the firmware file (.swu) in the root directory of a USB stick
  • Insert the USB stick in the USB port of your printer
  • Go to Preferences > Maintenance > Update firmware, and select the new firmware in the update menu

Update your Ultimaker S5 via the network

Connect the printer to the network via Wi-Fi or Ethernet in the Preferences > Network menu.

  • Go to Preferences > Maintenance > Update firmware
  • Choose the stable version, which installs the latest firmware

Wait for the Ultimaker S5 to finish updating the firmware. The printer will restart.

Updating from older firmware (v 5.1.8 and older)

When updating from firmware 5.1.8 and older, a stepping stone firmware version (5.1.94) must be installed first.

  • Connect the printer to the network via Wi-Fi or Ethernet in the Preferences > Network menu
  • Go to Preferences > Maintenance > Update firmware
  • Choose the stable version, which installs firmware 5.1.94
  • Wait for the Ultimaker S5 to finish updating the firmware. The printer will restart
  • Go to the Preferences > Maintenance > Update firmware menu again and update. This will install the latest stable firmware

If you are updating from firmware 5.1.8 or older, download both files below (.tar and .tar.sig) onto the root folder of your USB stick.

After installing 5.1.94, download the correct version of the latest stable Ultimaker S5 firmware as described above, and update the firmware again.
