In some cases, it may be necessary to uninstall the Material Station, for example, for transportation or configuration reasons. Uninstalling the Material Station is possible in two different ways:

  • Disconnecting. If you temporarily want to use the UltiMaker S series printer without the Material Station, you only have to disconnect it. This could be recommended for certain stiff and/or brittle materials.
  • Physical removal. If you have to perform repairs to the Material Station or printer, the Pro Bundle must be disassembled completely.

Learn more about uninstalling the Material Station in both ways below.

Disconnect the Material Station

It is possible to switch between a Pro Bundle and a standalone UltiMaker S series printer without too much effort. You can leave the Material Station in place and only disconnect some parts. The benefit of this approach is that the Material Station is quickly reconnected when required.

Follow the steps below to properly disconnect your Material Station:

  1. Turn off the printer using the power switch at the back.
  2. Remove the clamp clips from the bottom of each feeder.
  3. Take the Material Station's Bowden tubes out of the bottom of each feeder.
  4. Remove the spool holder cap from the back panel of the printer.
  5. Insert the spool holder into the back panel and push down until it snaps into place.
  6. Connect the spool holder cable to the NFC socket in the back panel of the printer.
  7. Disconnect the Material Station cable from the UMB OUT port in the printer's back panel.

Note: If you have an Air Manager, ensure to reconnect the Air Manager cable. Disconnect the cable from the UMB OUT port of the Material Station and reconnect it to the UMB OUT port of the printer.

If you choose not to use the Material Station at all and there are no spools stored inside, you can remove the power extension cable between the printer and the Material Station. Connect the power cable directly to the UltiMaker S series printer.

Tip: However, if the power extension cable is left in place and power is supplied to the printer via the Material Station, you can still store opened material spools in the Material Station, as the humidity will continue to be controlled.

You can now turn on the printer again and load materials into the UltiMaker S series printer using the spool holder and filament guide.

Physical removal

If it is necessary to completely remove the Material Station, for example, for repair or warranty purposes, disassemble the Pro Bundle as described below.

Tip: If you have to perform a repair to the Material Station that requires access to the bottom cover, or if you have to pack the Material Station for transport, first remove all material spools. Use the eject button to unload all preloaded materials.

  1. Turn off the printer using the power switch at the back.
  2. Remove the power extension cable between the printer and the Material Station.
  3. Disconnect the power cable from the Material Station.
  4. Remove the clamp clips from the bottom of each feeder.
  5. Take the Material Station's Bowden tubes out of the bottom of each feeder.
  6. Disconnect the Material Station cable from the UMB OUT port in the back panel of the printer.

Note: If you have an Air Manager, also disconnect the Air Manager cable from the UMB OUT port of the Material Station.

Carefully lift the printer off the Material Station and (temporarily) place it on a flat, level, and stable surface. Be careful, as the printer is heavy. The UltiMaker S series printer must be lifted by at least two people.

If you want to continue printing with the UltiMaker S series printer after removing the Material Station, install the spool holder and load materials directly into the printer.

  1. Remove the spool holder cap from the back panel of the printer.
  2. Insert the spool holder into the back panel and push down until it snaps into place.
  3. Connect the spool holder cable to the NFC socket in the back panel of the printer.
  4. Place the material spools on the spool holder and load them into the printer via the Load material process on the printer.

Tip: Learn more about loading materials into the printer (without a Material Station) on this page.

After disconnecting or removing the Material Station, you can now continue printing, start the troubleshooting or repair process, or pack up your machine if it must be shipped for service.
