To prepare for your first print, a few things needs to be done and checked.

Installing the material from the Ultimaker Marketplace

Before you can start using LehVoss 9825 NT in Ultimaker Cura, you need to install the print profile from the Ultimaker Marketplace. Please follow the following steps:

  1. Ensure that you are using the latest version of Ultimaker Cura - see here for more information
  2. Ensure that you are logged in with your Ultimaker account in Ultimaker Cura
  3. Browse the Ultimaker Marketplace for "LUVOCOM 3F PAHT 9825 NT - Engineering Settings" and click "Add to Cura"

  4. In Ultimaker Cura, click on "Check for account updates"

    Ultimaker Cura will notify you that the material "LUVOCOM 3F PAHT 9825 NT - Engineering Settings" is available for installation.
  5. Restart Ultimaker Cura when requested, and afterwards, confirm that the material is available in your dropdown list of available materials:

  6. Confirm that when you select the material and your S-line printer, there are no orange or red colored boxes in the Material Selection dialog:

Install the material on your S-line printer

Next, you need to ensure the material is present on your printer. Depending on your situation, this may happen automatically.

1. My printer is offline, and not connected to any network

You'll need to transfer your materials via USB to the printer. This is described in this article, and for your convenience replicated below.

  1. Select LUVOCOM 3F PAHT 9825 NT - Engineering Settings as the material in Ultimaker Cura
  2. Open any model and slice
  3. Instead of printing, save to a USB drive
  4. Insert the USB drive in the printer
  5. Navigate on the printer to Maintenance and then import material profiles
  6. The printer confirms that the material has been installed on your printer
  7. To check, select Change Type for any of the currently installed materials, and see if LUVOCOM 3F PAHT 9825 NT - Engineering Settings is available in the list.

2. My printer is connected to the cloud via Digital Factory

You can recognize this status in Ultimaker Cura by the blue "cloud" icon.

Material synchronization over the cloud is currently not yet supported (this will be implemented in Q4-22). For now, follow the procedure under #1: My printer is offline.

3. My printer is connected to LAN

You can recognize this status in Ultimaker Cura by the blue "checkmark" icon. Materials are automatically synchronized to the printer. A confirmation dialog box is shown in Ultimaker Cura. If for some reason this does not work as expected, follow the USB import instructions under #1 as a workaround.


Pre-print printer maintenance

Prior to printing, ensure that your 3D printer is in an excellent state. Every 3D printer needs to be maintained properly in order to keep the printer in the most optimal condition.

Deviations from the optimal condition lead to print quality inconsistencies and irregularities.

Before your first print, execute the following maintenance actions:

  • Clean all smooth shafts with a paper towel and remove all debris
  • Clean the leadscrew of the Z motor with a paper towel and remove all debris
  • Lubricate all smooth shafts with the supplied oil (Unilube)
  • Lubricate the leadscrew of the Z motor with the supplied grease (Magnalube)
  • Tighten the belts in X and Y direction (loosen and tighten pulley screws)
  • Make sure the feeder tension is positioned in the middle section

As a reference, here is the recommended maintenance schedule for the Ultimaker S5 Pro Bundle:

Drying of the filament

Like all polyamides, LUVOCOM 3F PAHT 9825 NT is sensitive to moisture uptake. Although moisture uptake is less than usual with polyamides, care should be taken that the filament is as dry as possible before starting to print. Moisture in the filament strongly influences the print quality in a negative way, leading to excessive stringing, blobs, and a rougher surface finish.

Therefore, it is highly recommended to pre-dry the material before every use to ensure the filament is absolutely dry, and it is recommended to keep the material shielded from moisture during printing, either by making use of the Ultimaker Material Station or by a separate dry box.

How to properly dry the material spool:

  1. Pre-heat an (vacuum) oven to 100 °C / 212 ºF
  2. Place the material spool on a tray in the center of the (vacuum) oven
  3. Leave the material in the oven for 4-8 hours of drying time
  4. Remove the material spool from the oven and place it in a ziplock bag or airtight container with a silica bag to cool down to room temperature
  5. The material is now ready for use

Filament handling during printing

During printing, the material can absorb moisture which will influence the material behavior and quality. Therefore, it is highly recommended to take extra care of the material during printing to prevent the influence of moisture uptake.

Ultimaker S5 Pro Bundle

  • Place the material spool directly from the ziplock bag / airtight container in the material station for printing.

Secondary equipment e.g PrintDry, Polybox

  • Place the material spool in the PrintDry (at 75 °C) or Polybox (with dried silica bags) and feed the material through a Bowden tube towards the entry of the feeder.
  • Place the PrintDry or Polybox at a location where the filament path does not encounter too much tension feeding through. For example at the back of the Ultimaker Printer.

Filament handling after printing

If you are not printing again soon after the print, it is highly recommended to store the material properly. Inconsistent material handling and storage can result in moisture uptake of the filament. We recommend storing the material in a (sealed) zip lock bag or airtight container with silica bags.
