The CC print cores are designed specifically to print with composite materials. More information about the different designs of the CC cores can be read on this page. This design ensures that the CC print core doesn’t wear down and guarantees the same print quality over many printing hours. AA or BB print cores wear down quickly when printing with composite materials.
Although the CC print cores can be used in the Ultimaker 3, Ultimaker does not support the compatibility. The Ultimaker 3 is not optimized to print with abrasive materials. Composite materials can also damage the feeder wheel of the Ultimaker 3.
The feeders of the Ultimaker S3 and Ultimaker S5 are designed for use with composite materials. The knurled wheels in the S-line feeders are made of a hard material with a special coating to minimize wear due to composite materials. The knurled wheels of the Ultimaker 3 feeders are not optimized for this. Composite materials will quickly erode the 'teeth' of the knurled wheel. If the knurled wheel is smooth, it can no longer grip the material. The filament can slip in the feeder, causing unreliable material flow and under-extrusion.
Note: Due to the different internal layout of the feeders, the S-line feeders are not compatible with the Ultimaker 3.
We encourage customers to use third-party materials with their printers. However, please note that when the use of third-party elements causes damage to parts of the printer, including the print cores and the feeder, these parts are excluded from warranty. When using a CC print core in your Ultimaker 3, please be aware of the associated risks. If your feeder has been damaged due to the use of composite materials, please contact your reseller to purchase a replacement.
