This article describes the calibration procedure for setting the location of the switch bay on the Factor 4 and Factor 4 Plus.
The switch bay in the front-right corner of the gantry enables the second print core to be lifted and lowered. It is important that print core switching functions well for active leveling and a correct nozzle alignment in dual-extrusion prints. The lift switch is already calibrated at the factory, but calibration can also be performed manually if needed.
It is recommended to perform this calibration in the following situations:
- After replacing the gantry or replacing / adjusting components on the gantry
- After replacing the print head
- When the print core in slot 2 is not lifting and lowering correctly
- Before performing other Factor Series calibrations, such as the gantry or purge location calibration*
Note: If multiple calibration processes are needed, particularly after hardware changes (e.g. gantry changes, belt replacement, skew correction), always perform the lift switch calibration first. Other calibrations use both print cores and require successful nozzle switching to be completed.
Instructions
In the Options menu (gear icon), go to Maintenance → Print head → Calibrate lift switch and select Start calibration. Open the glass door of the build chamber and follow the instructions on the display.
If the lift switch is correctly moved to the front and back, select Confirm to complete the calibration process. If this is not the case, select Try Again to repeat the calibration steps.
Note: Did the lift switch move to the front and back again correctly, but you do not observe the print core in slot 2 raising and lowering as expected, there could be a problem with the lift switch mechanism inside the print head. Please contact support for further assistance.
