This error can appear on UltiMaker S series printers with an Air Manager, including the UltiMaker S5 and UltiMaker S7.

As the error message indicates, the Air Manager fan is unable to reach the desired speed during operation. The printing process is stopped for safety reasons, and the print cores and build plate cool down. The error could be caused by the following reasons:

  • An object is physically obstructing the rotation of the Air Manager fan.
  • There is not enough space behind the Air Manager.
  • External ventilation is interfering with the Air Manager fan control.
  • There is an error in the software controlling the Air Manager fan.
  • The Air Manager fan is defective.

Please perform the following checks:

  1. Ensure the Air Manager fan is clear of unwanted objects and debris. If necessary, clean the Air Manager fan.
  2. Ensure there is at least 10 cm clearance behind the Air Manager.
  3. Ensure the printer's firmware is up to date.

Fan hardware problem

If the tips above have not helped to resolve the error message, there could be a hardware problem with the Air Manager fan. If a hardware problem with the Air Manager fan can be determined, you will receive a free replacement. Special conditions apply.

Please contact support. We will need the following information:

  • Serial number. The serial number of the Air Manager is found on the filter housing and visible from the back. The serial number starts with BPP-.
  • The log files. When you see the ER86 message, reboot the machine via the button on the display or the power switch at the back of the printer. Immediately afterward, save the printer's log files to a USB drive.
  • Batch number. For traceability on fan problems, please share the batch number of the Air Manager fan. See more information below.

The batch number of the Air Manager fan is shown as a number on the side of the fan. Accessing this number requires disassembly of the Air Manager. The document below contains complete repair instructions including information on where to find the batch number.
